Gigs, Gigs, Gigs

You’ll never guess what I’ve got coming up.  Yes I’m doing/putting/conducting a gig or two.

On saturday I’m performing with the Midnight Cabaret Band at a private function in Bristol as their main singer is on holiday.  We are doing a set of 20’s style jazz and cabaret songs.  I’m even trying out a mini set of sultry/sexy songs, which is a nice challenge for me.   I’ve even been inspired to loose weight to fit into my lovely old cabaret dress.f17u5882  I’m very inspired by the music and I very much intend to take the set elsewhere afterwards.

On 10 May both the Community Choir and the Day Choir are singing at a wedding.  We’ve been working for months on the songs and, if I say so myself, they are starting to sound really great.  The wedding is my husband’s best friend’s wedding and he’s only just started working on his best man’s speech this week.  Cantare Choir/Day Choir have done little else for hours each week for months.  We are singing my arrangements of I Can’t Help Falling in Love, Happy Together and One Day Like This.  The latter two songs are by far the most complicated arrangements I’ve ever done, because I refuse to use instruments to play the instrumental parts of the original songs, so we have a lot of string parts to sing.  It has been a steep learning curve but I think we are pretty much ready to strut our stuff.

And lastly I’m starting to think about my yearly student concert.  It’s going to be on 29 June at the Hare and Hounds in Kings Heath, Birmingham.  I think I have about 15 students performing in it and it will be a realy variety of styles.
