The idea (and the procrastination)
For ages I’ve had an idea of creating a series of videos for my students, (and anyone else), to share the things that I wish everyone knew about singing. There are certain things I say over and over when I’m teaching my thinking is if I put them into a series of videos that this would save time in lessons.
Why it’s taken me so long to get started
I’m not sure if you’ve heard this but one idea about procrastination is that it is rarely a sign of laziness and almost always a sign of either fear or not knowing how to progress with something.
I have been the queen of procrastination. I’ve been procrastinating A LOT.
It’s taken me months to get round to starting this project because I am deeply self-conscious about making videos.
It’s the details you have to think about that I hate.
The idea that you need the right background. You need to not say “um” “er” “like” and so on. To not look incredibly stilted. I don’t know how other people do it.
So I stalled.
Then I decided on a plan.
I write the blog and then create a video. I just get over the anxiety.
I know I have to put a catchy title on each video and I might need to do those weird subtitle things. The weird subtitles might be wrong. The video image might be awful or hilarious in a bad way. (It was)

Being brave
So here I am. Today. On a Sunday. There are no kids around and I have enough brain power to draft the first blog.
I’ve done it
I’ve made the first video. I’ve shared it on my Youtube channel and I’m going to share it with you. I have so much of the ick I don’t want to share it.
I tell people to be brave all day so I guess I have to be brave.
I think I managed to sort the issue of my lampshade looking like a comedy hat.
As you’ve seen above the image youtube chose to share for the public image of the video was not the best so I had to change that.
The video
Is on the next blog, along with an outline of what it’s talking about for people who don’t want to watch videos.
Ironically this isn’t the first video I made in the series. I made one a few months ago but I didn’t tell anyone about it. So this is the first video I made. About jaws, jaw tension and loads of things you can do the release/reduce jaw tension.
Now I upload the link to the first video. Wish me luck…
The video in YouTube.
And below you can see the thumbnail for the video. Maybe there is a good reason for procrastination.
